Heavy rain set in early this morning rnd continued uninterruptedly, making the course very heavy for the second lav’s plnv of' the golf championship tourney. ’ It was at first thought it would he necessary to postpone 'play today, but the first pair went off promptv after S a.m. The best round up till noon was that cf 78 by W. A. Keeling, who yesterday could not better 84 and in all other rounds up to this stage was SO or over. Details of play are : Third round: Cath.ro SO (aggregate ■240) ; Fryer 83 (243) ; Reilly, 82 (245) ; Keeling. 78 (248) ; Clarke 81 (249); Cook 89 (250); o’Callaghan. 82 (251); T. Duncan. 86 (252); Wiggins 90 (254); Roberts 36 (266); Harrison 88 (267); Hu.ssev 95 (275); San del 96 (278); McKay 94 (284). Up ’to 1 o’clock the best morning round was that of A. E. Ekstedt, the local amateur, who crashed badly on the second round yesterday afternoon. He did the course in 73. Wright (Timaru) also did a good round of 75. Silk took 77. , , , Shaw, under the wretched conditions prevailing, was not. exhibiting the same high standard of play as yesterday. He went out this morning in 38 but had not completed the round at 1 p.m. J. D. Mclntosh did the round in 74. thereby improving his position. Wright has now displaced Silk at the head of the amateurs.
