OFF TO IMPERIAL CONFERENCE
PARLIAMENTARY FAREWELLS
(By Telegraph—Special to "The Star.") WELLINGTON, Aug. 26.
The Hon. G. IV. Forbes. Prime Minister, with Airs Forbes and the New Zealand delegates to the Imperial Conference had a happy send-off on Thorndon station last night, when the Limited Express was caught for Auckland, there to connect with the mail rsteamer Aorangi for Canada and thence to England. It will be a rapid journey, and the party only arrives at London two days before the conference opens.
The gathering on the platform included Lieut. El worthy (representing the Governor-General), SirWalter.Camcross (Speaker of the Legislative Council), Sir Charles Statham (Speaker of the House of Representatives), all mean- . be us of the Cabinet, the executive- of " the United Party, a ‘Jarge number of members of the Lower House and. Airs V B. B. Wood, daugther of the late Sir Joseph Ward, who presented *M : r§ Forbes with a large bouquet. "''CTbe Leader of the Opposition,-- the — Right Hon. J. G. Coates, was- one—of the last to grip the Prime Almister's hand and express! good l wishes. “Good- _ bye. A merry Christmas, George,” said his political opponent cheerily. “Thanks Gordon,” replied the Prime Minister. “A happy new year to you.”.-,. The crowd raised, three rousirLg cheers for “Honest George” ais the train moved off. Absolutely the last to bound the; , train was the head of the Prime Alinister’s department, Mr F. D. Thomson, who imperturbably arrived a couple of minutes before the departure time and said! his farewells unhurriedly. The Prime Minister and Airs Forbes i are accompanied as far as Auckland by their two daughters. Their son, Robert, said good-bye in Wellington, tor he carries the responsibility for his father’s farm and is anxious to get back to the Cheviot holding;
PREMIER. EN ROUTE TO CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph—Press. Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 25. The Prime Alinister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, departed for Auckland by tonight’s Limited express on the fiust stage of his journey to the Imperial Confgcrence in London. The GovernorGeneral was represented at the Thonidion station by Lieut. Ehvorthy, and the Mayor. Air G. A. Troup, represented the citizens of Wellington. Air and Alts Forbes are being accoannanied! to Auckland by their daughters. Other members of the delegation who are going north to-night are Alessrs I‘. D Thomson. C. A. Jeffrey, C. A. Berendsen and Dr. G. Craig.. Sir Thman Sidev is already in Auckland.
