OLD PUPILS’ ASSEMBLY

HAWERA HIGH SCHOOL-

EIGHTH ANNUAL BALL.

Decorated gaily in a harmonising colour scheme and' thronged with over 400 dancers, the ball room of the IVinter -Show Buildings at Hawera. presented an enchanting scene last evening on the occasion of the annual reunion assembly of the Hawera High School Old Girls and Old Boys’ Associations. The ball was the eighth annual function held under the auspices of the two associations, and afforded evidence of its sustained popularity by drawing a record attendance' from all parts of the province. '

Chinese lanterns of the modem type glowed in various tints over ±he heads of the hall room assembly, while suspended baskets, of greenery and festoons of green, gold and blending tones were effectively employed in a tasteful scheme of decoration. Masses of palms and ferns were arranged in the lower hall and supper room where the gleams of further clusters of tinted lights lent attractive colour to the scene.

To the rhythm set by McNeill’s novelty band the dance numbers proved replete with enjoyment throughout a. well balanced programme, the concluding portions of which,, featured' streamer and confetti waltzes. Members of the committee shared the duties of masters of ceremonies. Great credit for the successful organisation and administration of the function is due to the committee members com'jining with the joint secretaries. Miss M. Campbell and Mr J. Matheson. Other members of the committee were the Misses B. Brown, B. Stevens, K. Brown and S. Evans, and Messrs A. Walker, L. Walker, G. McGlashan, J. Cheevers. and R. Lendrum. The supper tables, were laden with an abundance of dainty edibles. Appreciated assistance in the arrangement of the tables and the supervision of the service was given hv Mesdaines.' J. W. Harding, J. O. Hobbs and E. M. Lendrum.
