SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
PARTY CO-OPERATION SUGGESTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, June 25. Co-operation between the United and Reform Parties in selecting candidates to contest the Parliamentary elections was advocated at a committee meeting of the New Zealand Political Association to-night. Reference was made to the 1928 general election, and it was stated that, owing to the Reform and United Parties each nominating a candidate. at least half-a-dozen seats were secured by Labour. After discussion the following resolution was unanimously adopted: “That in view of the futile contests in a number of constituencies at the last general election and at the recent Hutt by-election, when -seats were secured by Labour candidates owing to triangular contests, this association urges that the two anti-Labour parties co-ordinate in the selection of candidates for such seats where it appears essential, and thus avoid a repetition of the results of previous elections.” A copy of the resolution is to he sent to the Prime Minister and 1 to the Leader of the Reform Party.
