(From Our O'wn Correspondent.) SURF CLUB. One of the brightest and best euchre parties took place when Tongahoe and Manawapo Surf Club' held a function in the Manutahi Hall, Large numbers of supporters and friends from the surrounding districts swelled the throng, and after the euclire was finished, dancing was carried on until after midnight. Much credit is due to Mr Couch, the energetic secretary, who arranged the function. Prizes were won by Miss O’Sullivan and M,r West, while Miss Sexton and. Mi- B. Jackson annexed the consolation prizes. The Mascot Orchestra dispensed good muisic and extras were played by Miss O’Sullivan. STONE CRUSHER, The contractors who are supplying the Eginont County Council with metal for tile stretch of road between Manutahi and Kakaramea nave installed an up-to-rate' plant at the beach. la the layout and setting up of the machinery much forethought and knowledge have been employed and the whole work reflects much credit upon the contractors. The bad weatner has hampered the work, but it is hoped that a spell of dry weather will now set in. ■ The road to the beach has been, repaired and carefully graded and lorries are employed to convey the crushed metal to where it has to be deposited on the roads. A hal'd papa stone is tieposited on the beach by the action of the waves and this has. to be secured when the fide has, receded 1 . Shifts of about five hours eaeli can be worked. Powerful draught horses are used -to haul the stone from the beach to the crusher. GENERAL. Several fine lakes are to he found in this district near the sandhills which border the coast.' One lake is a game sanctuary and many fine black swans and ducks make it their home. Some years ago perch were liberated in the lakes and now they are to be found in numbers. Fruit trees are heavily laden this year, but the winds are playing havoc with them.
