FATAL CAR SKID

SOMERSAULTS ON ROAD. ONE PASSENGER KILLED. (Bv Telegraph—rress Association.) GISBORNE, Jan. 20. While returning to Gisborne from the country at noon to-day a light car occupied by four men* skidded in loose gravel on a corner at Matawhero, about four miles from Gisborne, and overturned three times. Erik Gideon Ogren, a watersider, 43 years of age, was killed and the driver of the car, George Nelson, was seriously injured. The other two passengers were Frederick Stanley, who was injured on the leg and arm, and Thomas McConnel, who received cuts on the scalp and face. Nelson was removed to the Cook Hospital with serious head injuries, but Stanley and McConnell’s injuries were only slight.
