AUSTRALIAN SWIMMERS
OPEN DOMINION TOUR. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 4. Noel Ryan and Owen Griffiths, the Australian swimmers, opened their New Zealand tour at a carnival in the tepid baths to-night. Each made one appearance. Ryan was easily defeated by G. Uridison .the New Zealand champion, by 15 yards over 440 yards in /unin 21 see, they being the only starters. The time was 4 3-s.sec outside Uridson’s record.' Ryan, whose best time was smin 17sec, swam below form. Griffiths won the 100 yards scratch race by five feet, in 58 3-ssec from ,T. P. Farrell, the Auckland champion. The New Zealand record is 55 4-ssec, so Griffiths’ effort was only moderate. Another carnival will be held to-mor-row night. Rvan is in the 880 yards race and Griffiths in the 50 yards. SUGGESTIONS TO COUNCIL ' DUNEDIN, Dec. 5. At a meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association a pnotion was carried that the council be written to and urged to make an endeavour for Roy Galder, New Zealand champion diver, to visit Australia this season to compete against the Australian diving champions. It was also decided to suggest to the council that Miss Kathleen Millar be invited to accompany the Australian lady swimmers on their Zealand tour.
