MAMMITIS.
Some farmers in the district still report a good deal of mammitis and slipping, though the. troubles do not appear to be so general as of late years. These troubles demand very great care on the .part of the milkeis and also care in the fodder given. The value of massaging, which means, of course, gentle rubbing with the hands in cases of hard quarteis, a form which mammitis frequently takes, is stressed 'by many farmers, and. cases were quoted recently to a “Hawera Star” representative where the rebel given the cow was remarkably effective. ° The season so far has been very varied in “quality,” one might sav, toron it depends so much, through the pastures, the health and wellbeing of the cows and their ability to milk veil. This affects them very soon and very directly, and therefore the dryness ot a good deal of the season lias not been at all favourable. , One farmer reports cases ot cows daily variations in milk flow, and some days a cow would go off for a tune and then come back. There must be a reason, and it would be worth seeking the advice of the departmental experts.
