OATS IN LUCERNE.

VALUABLE TEGONS'.

Two young farmers near Ofaikeho, Air S. Le Fleming, on the Auroa Road, and Mr H. R. Wood, on the Rama Rond, have grown remarkably fine crops’ of oats this year. The former has about nine acres and the latter something over one acre, and in both cares the crop is nearly all over five feet, and in parts over six fecit in height- and a fine sample all over the pn flrlock. Mr Le Fleming’s were sown, as bias been the case for several 1 years. <in a lucerne cron established four years, and he hap"been immensely jfeased and satisfied' with the results. _ He sowed 2,\ bushels to the acre with 2ewt oi super. The wisdom of sowing oats with lucerne ha,s often been questioned. Tins

seems to prove it to lie a valuable asset on the farm, .because each crop has tbeen better than the other, giving a wealth of green food early, white the lucerne has also giyeu exoelilent 'results. . , . , . c Air La Fleming is making a stack otr the oats. He started it nine yards by seven, and has already had to enlarge it to 12 x 9, and only half the field is cut. Probably he wilt need, to make another stack. His method was to use the heavy harrows and, then disc twice. In cutting he has two sweeps going behind! the mower, and then the raike is used and a trolly to take the material to the stack, where he has an exa Ilf at hoist that lie has found a great 'about' saver. The crop was sown about April and his observation indicates the value to the land of the 'lucerne crop. He does not believe in turning his cows on to the lucerne, and tins policy has been borne out by results. Juio lucerne is coming away well, and promises to give excellent cuts later in the season. He is altogether well satisfied after four ye airs’ trials. The pad dock furnishes a valuable object lesson.
