TRAGEDY AT OHANGAI.
COSTUME CATCHES PIKE. CHILD SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES. After being dressed in a costume I made of paper and light woollen material to attend the children's annual fancy dress ball at Ohangai last evening, Maurice George Trilford, aged five years, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Trilford of Ohangai, came into contact with a naked light in the house and /suffered severe injuries, necessitating his immediate removal to the Hawera hospital. He was admitted at about seven o’clock, but died from shock and injuries shortly before six o’clock this morning. In endeavouring to smother the flames Mrs. Trilford suffered severe burnn to both hands and similar -injury was sustained by Mr. Trilford.
The child -was the only boy and was the youngest of a young family of five children. Mr. and Mrs. Trilford are well-known and popular farming residents of the Ohangai district and the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to them in their tragic bereavement.
