BUSH FIRES RAGING

IN POVERTY BAY DISTRICT. PARTY OF FIVE MEN MISSING. SEVERE STOCK LOSSES FEARED. (By Telegraph— Association.) GISBORNE, Oct. 9. Fires i-aging through fallen bush and logs on the Te Kopua and adjacent properties a,re expected to cause severe stock losses. At 11.30 a.m. the fire covered 2000 acres and was spreading owing to the high wind, the settlers having difficulty in clearing the paddocks. Fears are entertained for the safety of a, party of five men who lett Te Kopua early and had not returned at noon. A settler named Torri© was thrown from his horse, which dashed forward into the blazing country and was lost.
