PARLIAMENT.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 9. The House of Repi-esentatives met at 11 a.m. A large number of papers and reports were laid on the table by Ministers. The Leader of the Opposition protested against the delay in the production of these reports. He said that they were necessary to members to enable them to understand the questions before the Hoi<se and to usefully participate in the debates. Sir Joseph Ward endorsed this protest. The JTon. R. A. Wright, in reply, said that it seemed to him that they had to take the papers when they were issued by the departmental heads. He had placed them before the House as soon as he could. If he were in the House next session, he would endeavour to get the departments to forward their reports earlier. Speaking to Public Petitions Committee’s report that it had n© recommendation to make into the euchre .tournament case. Mr. D. G. Sullivan said that he was very disappointed at the committee’s report. School committees all through New Zealand used by means of euchre tournaments,. to raise funds for the purpose of carrying out work about the school, and various other purposes, and he urged the Minister of Finance to give an undertaking that the police would not interfere with such tournaments. If the Minister would do this,, it would assist th© committees materially, otherwise the committee’s report would place very serious problems before school committees. Mr. H. El. Holland said that there was not a fraction of the gambling element in a euchre tournament that there was on a stock exchange. All money raised by such tournaments were raised for a "public or semi-public and an extremely useful service. The least the committee could have done was to bring down a report for favourable consideration. The House adjourned at one o’clock till 2.30 p.m.
