FRIESIAN ASSOCIATION.
TARANAKI BRANCH. A meeting of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Friesian Association was held recently. Present: Messrs H. E. Johnson, E. H. Letts, E. Hancock H. J. Marehant, O. J. Schumacher, A. J. Smart H. Johnson, D. Johnson, and Wright junr. Mr C. A. Marehant was. elected pres.i>dent, and the. following committee was elected: Messrs H. Mafhant, H. E. Johnson. C. W. Baldwin, A. J. Smart, Harry Johnson, W. K. Morris. it was resolved that the Taranaki A. and P. Society be asked to communicate' with tlie Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs asking them to appoint a pedigree Friesian judge to .adjudicate in the Friesian calf class. The chairman complimented the breed and Mr Johnson on the excellent result obtained in the Hawerar-Tokaora test. - ■’
It was .resolved to recommend the Friesian Association to ackimyitedfa?suitably the assistance- rendered by Mr IT. E. Johnson to the Friesian breed in New Zealand during; thie test. SHOW CHAMPIONSHIPS, s The N.Z. Friesian Association has allotted the following championships for the coming show season: — The Smith Island championships font bull ancl cow have been allotted! to the Otago A. and P. Associationls ribow to, bo held at Dunedin on the 21st and 22nd November. The Otago branch of tli© N.Z. Friesian Association h'a« given £l2 as special prizes for group daasegi .at ihte Otago show, and the show committee are .adding SO por cent, to that amount.
The North Island championships for bull and cow halve been allotted to the Auckland A. and P. Association’s show, to be held at Auckland on the ‘23rd and 24th November.
The Royal Agricultural Society’s show will 'be held in conjunction with the Manaawtu A. and P. Show, to be held at Palmerston North on October 30 and November 1 and 2. Among the special competitions for pedigree Friesian si'are the following:—(.a) Champion built, winner to hold £SO challenge cup for oni2 year and to receive a replica., value £lO 10s; (b) champion cow, winner to hold £SO challenge, cup for one year and to. receive a replica vialue £lO 10s; (c) N.Z. Breweries’ 100 guinea gold cup, "-winner to hold cup for one year and to receive ,a memento value £lO. This trophy is ; allotted to. the best cow bred and owned by the exlxi-' bi-tor. (d) Provincial group for teams of six animals, 2 bulls (one 2-year-old and one yearling bull), 4 females (one mature cow, a 3-year-old heifer, a 2-year-old heifer and a yearling heifer), The cow and 2 and 3-year-old heifers must be in milk or visibly in caff. Tbei prize money for this group class,is £ls and £lO .presented l>y the N.Z? Friesian Association; The N.Z. Friesian Assooiation ha® also granted £9O transport expenses for groups competing in the competition.
