(From Our Own Co rrespon dent.) SCHOOL. COMMITTER. The monthly meeting of the Riverlea School Committee was hold on Thursday last, there toeing 1 present Messrs W- H. Saugster (chairman), J. W. Kenyon, A. G. Joseph.son, D. McLeod, and M. F. Youltaiire (secretary). The head’ teacher, Miss M. I. More,craft, in her monthly .repoirt stated that the .roll! number was sixty-three and the. average attendance sixty-one. During the month Mr Henry had paid a visit of inspection. Dr. Mecredy and Nurse IngLiiS had also visited the school atnd a mecliciall inspect! on of the primer classes and! .standard® two and six had been carried out. Mr Syme, agricultural instructor, accompanied by Mr Austin, inspector of technical schools, had also visited the school to inspect the agricultural work toeing done. Accounts amounting to £2 5s were passed for payment. It was .resolved to hold a' working bee on Thursday next, 16th insto., for the purpose pf cleaning trees, etc. Miss Morecraift reported l tliat she desired to hold a school concert on Friday, August .17, and. wished: the committee to make all necessary arrangements. The concert is to he a .special. 1 effort and wall include attractive folk dancing, etc. It was resolved to fix the admission charges at 2.s 6d and Is 6d!, and to ask the ladies of the district to. provide the supper, these ladies to have complimentary tickets. The matter of advertising and obtaining the mulsici for the subsequent dance was left in the secretory’® hands to. arrange. GENERAL NOTES. The weather has been very good so far this month. Last week was very fine, with a couple of frosts, not,, however, of very great severity. The barometer was very high, the highest I have seen it for years. As a result of the good weather, allied to the much greater amount of top-dressing now being done, the country is looking very well, and the grass is making growth,; unless there is a very had setback later on there are all the appearances, of a good season. ( The local euchre parties will conclude on Tuesday evening, when the points prizes will be given out. Last week the ladies’ prize fell to Mrs. VouHaire with nine games out of twelve, and the l gentlemen’s prize to Mr. M. A. Voullaire with nine and a half games 1 out of twelve.. The local school girls’ basketball team journeyed to Otakeho on Saturday, and scored another win by nine points to one, their fifth win out of six games played. •
