France is faced with a serious situation in Syria, where events have forced M. Pon-sot, High' Commissioner, to suspend (the debate by the newly-elect-ed Parliament upon the proposed constitution, reports the 1 ‘ Dai lv Chronicle’s” Paris correspondent. The general elections returned a Nationalist, or anti-French Assembly, which .claims the s'ole right of proclaiming martial law of 'conducting foreign relation's. The Assembly has refused M. .Ponsot s request it-o drop the clauses and a dissolution is expected.
