A FINE NEW FACTORY The spirit of enterprise which has for the. past thirty-one years characterised the directors of the Cape Egmont Dairy Company, which was responsible sor the formation of the company in 1897, was further exemplified in the opening ceremony yesterday of the line' new iactory at Pungareku. This was performed by the chairman of directors, Mr M. Fleming, who was the CI . first chairman of the company. There was a gathering of nearly two hundred settlers and they were entertained at a banquet at which a long list of toasts was duly honoured. After “the'King” had been honoured •‘the company” was.given in eulogistic terms by Mr AY." C. Green. He congratulated shareholders on their good judgment in keeping 'Mir Fleming at tho helm and urged them to take the fullest advantage of their new factory. In his reply Mr Fleming referred to the days or the Crown Company to whom the first factory had been built in 1891. when the price of milk supplied was raised from 4d to 5d per gallon. He traced the formation of the lirst co-operative company with an outp t that grew from the modest figure >:'(> tons to the present output of well o er 1040 tons, the successive building of first seven and then nine vats and now providing a capacity to deal with 1.5 ,;> tons of produce. He said that farmer's along the coast had every opportunity to increase production and the experience of the company was that thev were taking every advantage of thrir chances and so fanning that Gape Fgmont would become one of the largest one-ioo" factories in Taranaki. Tho “dairy division” was proposed by Mr AY. It. Wright who complimento 1 the ofii ers on their good work and the encouragement they gave to farmers. It was acknowledged by Mr 0. Robertson who urged suppliers to always bring the finest milk, and referred to the testing by the department of h ttor for moisture, and cheese for moisture and fat. The dairy export merchants,” was proposed by Mr P. Brophv and replied to '■ v Mr A. r lborne, Air E. AY. D. Eobertson and AFr J. O. Maxwell. Other toasts honoured were “the architect and contractor,” “neighbourrh v factories,”. manager and staff,” mill “the chairman” and “the native supplies.” Tlio new factorv has.a cheese-making roam Do ft by 57ft ; receiving stand : T, t bv lift; testing room and manager's o“i e each lot bv lift, making roam with a capacity for 14 vats (at pr sent twelve of 940 gallons each are installed): butter making room 40ft by “ft; two whey tanks, 14ft by 12ft by lift : curing rooms 1 OOft by 66ft. The ' utter-making machinery, engine and holler. «torer~om etc., are in keeping Jih the most modern ideas. The, power used is 10 b.p. electric motor with a 50 h.p. boiler. The work has been completed in a way that, is most creditable to all concerned.
