WAR IN CHINA.
NATIONALISTS’ DRIVE TO PEKING. BRITISH SHIPS FIRED ON. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—B? ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (UNITED SERVICE.) HONGKONG, April 11. A naval wireless from Hankow states that Chinese troops fired on British tugs and lighters proceeding to Changsha to-dav, soldiers attempting to board the vessels by means of junks. The vessels were forced to return to /Hankow. A British Consular protest resulted in the Chinese garrison ‘commander taking the necessary steps to ensure safe passage. 'Chinese reports here state that the Nationalist, forces in their new drive ‘on Peking have heavily defeated the Shantung troops, who are hurriedly retreating northwards.
