INCREASES UNDER NEW REGULATIONS. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Received 11 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, April 12. Unde uthe new Customs) regulations which commenced to operate on Januarv last, under which passengers from abroad must declare -luggage in the form of a statutory declaration, Customs revenue shows an increase of over 200 per cent, as compared with the previous corresponding period. The Minister of Customs, commenting thereon, stated that the change had also had a good moral effect and curtailed the activities of a small but very enterprising minority of travellers who hitherto have not ’hesitated to deliberately lav themselves out to defraud the department.
