MARRIED WOMAN ATTACKED.
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Mlarch 23. While walking in the street en route to her home on the night of March 6, a marrjed woman was seized by two men at Darlington and dragged to an adjacent block of flats, where she was criminally assaulted by seven men. When allowed to depart she informed the police, who arrested five men. These men, Herbert Wilson, Frederick Payne, Phillip Jeffs, Ernest Wilson and Leslie Heath, were to-day charged with committing the outrage and were committed for trial on capital charges after police court hearing in camera.
The Magistrate’s action in excluding the Press is universally condemned. Many leading barristers have expressed the opinion that the Magistrate was seriously mistaken in conducting such a case behind closed doors.
