STATE DIGGINGS’ PLANNED

The Minister of Mines Mr F. W. Beyers, announced in the -House oi Assembly the Government’s intention to establish the State diggings at Alexander Bay, where Alerensky, 14 months ago, discovered immensely rich diamond alluvial deposits. The Allniister described the 100 claims which the Government proposed to work as “a treasure chest of immense value.” It is intended to work out the area, which is limited to two acres, probably within six months, hut Mr. Beyers said the Government would not be so foolish a.s to flood the market with valuable stones.
