STOCK MARKETS.

GOOD BUSINESS REPORTED

A STRONG BUOYANT TON E.

The firm demand and high level ol prices offered for dairy produce, combined with the great position in the wool market and the buoyancy ol the beef, have combined to produce and maintain a remarkably strong tone all round, with prospects that look very bright. This will be improved still more if the rain that threatened this morning develops into a downpour, sufficient to make the grass grow, and thus check the downward tendency in milk supplies, which has again set in as the result of the second dry spell. The pastures still look well, but there is little growth. For all classes of store- cattle, well bred and conditioned and of the beef | breeds, there- is a continued strong demand. Hawke’s Bay buyers are scour-1 ing the country to get that class of stock to cope with their luxuriant pastures and a« a result, the market grows keener. Though the demand for weaner dairy heifers is not yet strong, good sales have been reported, one specially good line fetching as high as £4 15s. The Waikato “call” has not yet come to any extent and -so- soon as that is felt the- market is certain to show the firmness, which has been experienced each season and was- very strongly felt last year. Fat cows are in demand too. and have brought up to £7 14s. Sheep of all kinds have met. as expected. a strong market for the wool farmer’s position with record prices for his output, is very good. Late sales have shown inter alia, medium ewe lambs ud to I.Bs 6d and wether lambs to 15s 6d, while small two-tooth wethers went down from 16s to- 18s 6d. The pig market generally, in spite of only moderate prices for the- product has shown an improvement. There were bnvers for all offered.,, Amongst current prices were gow and litter £4 10s. The position is being well maintained. The offers made- for dairy produce for the balance- of the season are- steadily getting higher and this indicates an exceptionally good end of season for,the dairy farmer. If weather conditions, are favourable and output held or increased to some extent the prospects are excellent.
