CHAUCER’S HOME.

REMAINS FOUND

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGH'I Received 11 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Feb. 26.

An underground chamber was discovered by workmen who were laying a cable between the House of Commons and Westminster Abbey. It is believed to be the remains of a house occupied by the poet Chaucer in the thirteenth century. Before the Henry VII. chapel was erected in 1535 the chapel of St. Mary stood on practically the same site.

Records show that Chaucer, when a parliamentary cleric of works, leased a house adjacent, to St. Mary’s. The position of the chamber corresponds with what must have been Chaucer’s house.—“ Sydney Sun” Cable.
