DROWNED AT NEW PLYMOUTH. (by telegraph-press association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dee. 28. Florence Henchman, single, aged 21, was drowned on Tuesday evening when bathing near the base of Porituitu. Tiwo young boys who were also bathing left the water and proceeded to dress. They then missed the girl, but the accident was not reported to the police till xh.s morning. Search is now being made tor the body. ELDERLY WOMAN’S DEATH. PALMERSTON N., Dec. 28. The body of Mrs E. Ross, a widow, aged 78, was found in about three feet of water in a concrete tank at the back of a residence in Napier Road about (5.30 a.in. to-day. The deceased had lately been worrying over the loss of a daughter who was killed as the result of a recent level crossing accident. DEATH OF A CHINAMAN. PALMERSTON N., Dec. 28. An enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of Young Foo, a Chinaman, aged 71, who died at Palmerston North Hospital as a result of injuries received through being knocked down by a motor-cycle at Oliau on December 18, was held to-day. The evidence of the cyclist showed that the deceased, when the motor cycle was approaching, started to run across the road, hesitated and was struck, sustaining fatal head injuries. A companion of the Chinaman denied that the deceased left his side of the road, and said that the cyclist did not swerve nor sound his horn.

The Coroner, who returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, said he did not intend to comment on the other evidence, which was conflicting.

. DEATH OF A MAORI BOY. GISBORNE, Dec. 28. An inquest was held to-day concerning the death of a Maori boy named George R.ikirangi, who was killed on the Te Arai bridge at Manutuke. The coroner found that death was due to a fracture of the base of the skull, .as the result of deceased’s horse becoming frightened and shying at a passing motor lorry, throwing him on the bridge.
