CRIMES IN AMERICA.
POLICE OFFICERS SHOT. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPY RIGHT. NEW YORK, Dec. 26. Police Lieutenant Kenmer, while shopping for his children’s Christmas tree, saw robbers in a bank and opened fire upon them. The robbers returned the shot and fatally wounded him. When dying he scribbled the number of the fleeing car on a piece of paper. The owner, when arrested, is alleged to have confessed that he was robbing the bank in order to buy his sweetheart a present. Another outrage is reported from Cireo, Texas. Four bandits, led by one attired as Santa Claus, snatched £IOOO from the counter of the First National Bank. Tne police opened fire as they were escaping. In the exchange of shots Chief of Police Bedford was fatally wounded. Several others were hit in a hail of stray shots.
OUTRAGES BY BANDITS. NEW YORK, Dec. 23. News from Dallas (Texas) states that, despite an offer of 5000 dollars for each bandit in that State, to-day’s outrages resulted in three' robberies. Two bandits were killed and two wounded, and two policemen were wounded.
Two thousand dollars were stolen from a Dallas bank in a daring daylight robbery by unmasked bandits.
Rohlieries in two smaller towns brought about considerable gunplay.
