Mr Li. O. Hooker returned to Hawera from a visit to Wellington last evening. ® Congratulations w'ere accorded to Mr T. E. Coleman, chairman of the Ngaere school committee, at the annual breakup ceremony', on the completion of 30 y'cars’ uninterrupted work as chairman. At Ngaere School on Thursday, a presentation of a set of stainless cutlery' was made to Miss Q. Divehall, infant mistress, who is leaving to be married. Complimentary remarks on her good work were made by the chairman and by Mr If. C. Taylor, a member of the Stratford County Council, wiho spoke for the people of the district. Mrs. A. Rankin, who for the past twelve months has been cooking instructress at the manual training centre and who lias resigned, intends to take up her residence in New Plymouth. At a staff gathering of the Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society on Thursday evening, opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Mr. Noel .Lewes, of the wool department, Wanganui, in view of his approaching marriage. In asking Mr. Lewes to accept a crystal jug and set ( of tumblers, the assistant general manager (Mr. C. G. Trotter) voiced appropriate congratulations on behalf of the assembly of over 80 members. He remarked on the efficient service rendered the society' for a period of seven years by' Mr. Lewes and further appreciation of the work of Mr. Lewes was expressed by the general manager (Mr. W. A. Hewitt). The Prime Minister (the Rt.'Hon. J. G. Coates), the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. K. S. Williams) and the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. O. J. Hawken) passed through Hawera by the mail train last evening. The Hon. Mr. Hawken left the train at Eltham in which district he will remain until Tuesday', while the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Works proceeded to New Plymouth where they spent the night. Tho.v went on to Mokau to-day where the new bridge was officially' opened. They intended to continue their journey' to Auckland and to return to Wellington on Tuesday.
