LIBRARY AT HAY’ERA. G RIANT BY NEW ZEALAND - ' COUNCIL. The quarterly meeting of the ia-ra-naki branch ,ot the New Zealand Society of Accountants, was held in the Savoy Tea Rooms, Hawera. last evening, the president of the branch (Mr W. G. Walk-ley) presiding. The principal business of the evening was to receive the report of Mr Hugh Baily, the branch representative on the New Zealand Council, dealing with the annual meeting of the society and the last meeting of the council. Inter alia, Mr Baily stated that a grant ol £SO towards- the establishment of an accountants library -at Hawera bad been approved by the New Zealand Council conditional upon satisfactory housing being guaranteed. The creation or a New Zealand scholarship fund was being considered by the council- and 'an initial donation of £SOO had been made. It had also been pointed out that when the new regulations regarding the matriculation -as the preliminary examinaion came into- force it would be necessary for prospective candidates to matriculate before sitting for any professional subject. Mr Baily was accorded a vote ol thanks for his report, which covered a further wide -range of subjects. A round tabic discussion on points relating to income tax figured largely among other matters dealt with by the meeting. It was announced that at the next quarterly meeting to he held at Stratford an address on New Zealand finance would be given by the -president.
