LAND SUBDIVISION.
AREA NEAR NORMANBY
° 1C PC SAL PUT TO THE MINISTER
In parts of South Taranaki there are areas which would lend themselves to subdivision into small dairy farms, and one of these is situated on the outskirts of Normanby, towards the western boundary, the land in the late Mr. Gideon Inkster’s estate, owned now by Mr. John Forbes. There is sufficient for well-nigh a score of farmers intensely farming a, small area each, and bringing the land into an area of “higher productivity,” a result which has been stressed very often by leading men. ‘ With a view to securing this objective, a scheme has been mooted by Mr. 1). J. Hughes to get the Government to acquire the property and dispose of it to approved applicants on a deferred pavment system. As a- means in this direction, Mr. Hughes has.interviewed the Minister of Lands, stating that he ;ould assure him there were many who wished to get a. small area of firstclas® land.
The Minister said that liis experience in one other instance was that men applying had only a. few pounds capital, hut that lie would approve of the purchase if ten applications could he secured from men with £SOO capital each. A suggestion liad been made to form a Farmers’ Board composed of experienced men to direct the matter. It is understood that Mr Forbes is willing to dispose of part of the land.
