This partnership had produced 94"'before Blunt caught Berry in two minds and held an easy catch. With Armstrong, Shipman carried on in a stvle that threatened a big total. Then through Henderson’s agency a dramatic change came over the game, and from one for 137 at lunch time the score had become seven for 164. At one stage four wickets fell for four runs in as many overs, and the county suddenly found itself struggling to avoid a follow-on. The ninth wicket actually fell when still three short o-t the required number, but Snary kept up his wicket, and with Skelding averted disaster. Henderson bowled superblv, and took five wickets cheaply. Lowry is- keeping wickets in place of James, who is indisposed. Leicester, having averted a followoni by a small margin-, despite somesplendid bowling by Henderson and Blunt, New Zealand' went in again, and gave a very -poor display. Blunt and Lowry were soon out, and the total at the tea adjournment was only 29 for two wickets. Page made another fine effort, and except Alcott was the only one to stand up to the bowling. The former had 11 fours in hi.s 65. and the latter also hit brightly. At the end of the -day nine wickets had fallen for onlv 165." and New Zealand thus had a. lead of 294.
