ANNUAL MEETING OF HOCKEY CLUB. The tenth annual meeting of members of the Kaponga Hockey Club was held in the Oddfellows’ Hail last evening. There was an attendance of about twenty presided over by Mr. J. JDavidson, the club’s president. The ohairmiaiii explained that, l fc appeared probable that the club team would be required to till engagements ou either Saturdays or Thursdays, -it would be necessary to first ascertain whether there were sufficient members to represent the club on one of these days, before proceeding further with the business of the meeting. Mr. Keliely gave an assurance that a sufficient number of members would be available to constitute a Thursday Mr. J. J. Davison submitted the following report: During tlie past season the club, ‘although not successful in winning the championship gave a creditable showing. Six matches were played, three of which were won and three lost. The outstanding feature of the season’s operations in the province was the match, Taranaki v. the Indian Army team, in which Kaponga was represented by Messrs. W. and I. Bennie, C. Keliely, and H. J. Briggs, who had the honour of captaining the provincial team. Congratulations are extended to these club members, and it is gratifying to record that their play in the match, was of a high eider. Thanks to the generous .support accorded by' its officers a substantial credit balance is shown on the financial side of the club’s operations. Despite the loss of several expert exponents of the game the playing prospects for tlie coming season are encouraging, as membership included, a number of promising young players who should develop, with practice, considerable pi-ominence. The thanks of the/ club are extended to /retiring officers for assistance rendered throughout the season. The ‘balance sheet disclosed a satisfactory financial position. The season commenced with a credit balance of £3 15s 7d, which now stood at £6 13s. Receipts, including the balance brought forward, totalled £2l 13s, made up of proceeds from ball (£l2 Os sd) and subscriptions (£5 17s), while expenditure amounted, to £ls, of which travelling expenses (£8) and purchase of appliances (£4) were the main features. The election of officers, resulted as follows : —< -Patron, Mr. S. C. Knight; president, Mr. J. J. Davison; vice-presidents: Dr. M. M. Hoc-kin, Messrs. W. G. Oran, T. Bennie, and A. J. Herbert; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C l . Keliely; auditor. Mr. FT. FI. Henderson ; management committee : Messrs. FT. J. Briggs, J. Bennie, and officers, ex-officio; sole selector, Mr. J. J. Davison; club captain, Mr. FI. J. Briggs; vice-president, Mr. V. Betts; delegates' to Taranaki Hockey Association : Messrs. J. J. Davison and O. Kehely; coach, Mr. J. J. Davison. It was resolved that the annual subscription be- ss, the same as for last season.

■Messrs. J. J. Davison, C. Kehely, V. Betts, C. Harding, and H. Boyle were appointed a ground committee. A vote' of thanks to retiring officers, the Press, and the chairman concluded tlie meeting. O DDFELLOWS’ L()DGE.

A well-attended meeting of the Loyal Kaponga Lodge, 1.'0.0.F., iM.U., No. 7965, was held last night. N.G. Bro. Candy presided. Visiting members from Loyal Union (Hawcra) and Excelsior (New Plymouth) lodges were present and heartily welcomed. Four new members were initiated and four proposed. About 20 members signified their intention of accepting a fraternal invitation from the Manaia Lodge on the 10th inst.

WEIGHT JUDGING AT SPORTS

The exact weight of the sheep in the weight-judging competition in connection with the recent sports meeting was 12211 b. Mr. L. Abbott won the competition with 1231 b, closely followed by Mr. M. Malone with 123a;11>.

RELAY ROAD RACE

The first of a series of relay road races under the auspices of the Kaponga Cycle Club will be ridden on Saturday next. Each rider will traverse the Manaia, Skeet, and Palmer Roads, starting and finishing at the Kaponga post office. Four riders constitute a team, and as each member of every team reaches the post office Ins baton will be passed on to the next rider of his team to the fourth man, as in a relay foot race. The inducement offered is possession of the club’s silver challenge buttons, which cannot be won outright. Next Saturday’s winners will be open to a challenge from any of the teams chosen, and the challenge must be taken up Avithin one month of the date of issue or the buttons Avill be forfeited. The event Avill start at 1.30 p.m. sharp. The club proposes commencing a series of six road races to be ridden on alternate Saturdays. It is probable that the first of the series Avill eventuate on Saturday, 14th inst. Three long and three comparatively short distances, of 30 and 20 miles respectively, have been decided upon. Prizes offered are : Silver cups for first, second, and third riders on aggregate points, and the trophies will become the absolute property of the AA'inners.
