MEETINGS OF HOUSEFIOLDER S

NEW COMMITTEE ELECTED

At the annual meetings of householders for schools within the Taranaki Education Board’s district on Mondaynight, new committees were elected as under sat the following schools: NGAERE.

Eight householders were present at Ngaere where Messrs. T. Ei. Coleman (chairman), H. O. Taylor, T. Et. Bocock, J. Piper, and A. D. Walker (secretary) were elected.

ARARATA

At Ararata Mr A. G. Larcom presided over an attendance of twelve. Messrs. Larcom (chairman), H. Foy (secretary), E. W. Lee, N. Parker, and P. Lundberg were elected to the committee. RAHOTU.

Mr. W. H. Butler presided over an attendance of nine at Raliotu Messrs Butler (chairman), K. Andrews, A. Baker, H. Clarke, T. Farquhar, N. Morgan, and V. Tyrell (secretary) being appointed to the committee.

MEREMERE.

At Meremere, Mr. G. W. Williams presided over a representative gathering. Those elected to the committee were: Mr. G. V. Williams (Chairman), W. A. Sorenson (secretary), F. A. Lichtwiark, G. Wallace, and H. J. Taylor. KAPUNI.

Messrs/ L. C. Flarrison (chairman), R. P. Shaw, A. E. Luscombe (secretary), F. Switzers and R. W, Swale were elected.

FRASER ROAD

(From Our Own Correspondent-. Mr J. R. Moller presided over an attendance of five at Fraser Road, when Messrs Moller (chairman', L. A. Jennings l (secretary', R. Smith, L. Campbell and S. H. Death were elected to the committee.

OPUNAKE

(From Our Own Correspondent). Mr A F. Hindi, presided at the Opunake meeting over- an attendance of twenty. In his annual report, the diairman of the committee, Mr Hindi, stated that a satisfactory year had been experienced. The ‘school was still overcrowded, especially the secondary department, which had made proore,ss, the roll number •inic.reasmg from 24 to 58 in two years, necessitating the appointment of an assistant. _lhe prnna.rv school had also maintained its high standard. On' behalf of the committee. Mr Flinch Ithiainlced the Education Board and the staff for' their wholehearted support in the advancement of the school. The general account showed a credit balance of £47 Is 7d. The headmaster (Mr TV. H. Burgess? reported, inter alia, as follows: Ihc school has had a, very successful year. The roll number in the primary department has maintained a fairly steady level of about 178. During the: year 92 pupils wore admitted and 92 were withdrawn, showing that more than half the school represented >a moving population, which is detrimental 1 , to the best interests of education. Notwithstanding this drawback .the work m the various classes met with the approbation of school inspectors. ’flic secondary department had grown considerably, and is now under two highly qualified teachers. Mr Burgess expressed his appreciation ol the loyalty and enthusiasm of his staff, and stated that these qualities made the efficiency of the school so high. Ihe report was adopted. The election of the committee was as reported yesterday. Mr A. F. Hrnoh was re-elected chairman and Mr W. O. Webby secretary. -

OEO. Twelve AA’ere present at Oeo, Mr. R. Ross presiding. Those elected Avere Messrs, Ross (chairman), P. Atkinson, F. Simpson, M. T. Say well, and T. G. Mitchell (secretary). PUKENGAHU.

At Pukengaliu Mr. J. O’Neill presided .over a gathering of twenty. Messrs. O’Neill (chairman), H. Harris, V. Sclnvieters, J. Kelly, anci E‘. Harper (secretary) Ayere elected to the committee. TE! KIRI. Messrs. Collins (chairman), R. and F. Wiatson, G. Sayed, and T. J. Coxhead (secretary) Avere elected to the committee.

OAONUI

Mr. J. Young presided over an attendance of free at Oaonui Avliere Messrs. Young (chairman), WasAVO, Brewer, Dobbin, L. Young, 4 and O. E vet to (secretary) AA’ere elected to the committee.

MATAPU. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

Mr. 4 Guy presided over the meeting held at Matapu. The chairman reported that during the year the attendance of the school came down from 121 to 112. The headmaster, Mr. Adams, was transferred to the Moturoa school this year, and the committee spoke A'ery highly of his teaching capabilities. The committee wished to congratulate Mr. Adams and the school staff, Miss Hawkes, Miss Frethey, and Miss McKenny on excellent work done during the year. The school was also to be congratulated on again Avinning the Bennett and Sutton Cup.

The committee Avislied to thank the Okaiawa. football and cricket clubs for the donation of a football and cricket bat respecetively. Mrs Russell had uoav been appointed pe rm anent he a dmistres s. The report, and also the balancesheet, Avhich shoAved a credit balance of £33 14s 9d, were adopted. Messrs Guy (chairman), Seed (secretary), Thomas, Carter, P'ratt, Prestidge, and Cole Avere elected to the committee.

AWATUNA

Mr. Davidson presided over an attendance of fiA’e householders, Avho passed a motion declining to A r ote themselves into a. new committee, on the grounds that the district was insufficiently represented. Consequently no committee was elected

At Finnerty and Ohangai no committees Avere elected, owing to poor attendances of householders. RAWHITIROA.

The annual meeting of householders at Rawhitiroa Avas held on Monday, when Mr. J. Cocker presided over a moderate attendance-

in the course of his annual report Mr. Cocker mentioned that another successful shoAv had been held during the year and a further sum set aside

for the erection of swimming baths. A great deal of work had been done in improving the entrance to the school, f and he considered that those members of the committee who had given so much time deserved the best thanks of the isettler.s. In this connection he wished to acknowledge the committee’s indebtedness to the Education. Board and the county council for help received. He concluded by expressing the committee’s best thanks to the head teacher (Mr. C. V. Smith) and the assistant (Miss Clarke)' for their work both in and out of school during the past year. The following motion was passed: “That this meeting of Ijouseholdei's desires to protest strongly against the removal of an agricultural instructor from Taranaki, as such a removal would necessitate a- lowering of the high standard of agricultural education now existing in Taranaki.” The following were elected to the committee : Messrs J. Cocker (chairman), D. May, F. Silver, W. Bootten, and M. O’Connor.

WHAKAMAKA. (F rom Our Own Correspondent.)

Mr Davies, who lias held the office •of chairmen. of the Wihaknmara School 'Committee for a number of years, presided over the meeting. During the course of the evening a vote of thanks to Mr Davies, who declined to continue as a, member of the committee, was passed. Mr Dobson mentioned the capable manner in which Mr Davies had carried 1 out liis duties Ta.s chairman, and asked that a record ho placed on the hooks. Mr Davies suitably responded. Those elected to the committee were: Messrs Dobson (chairman), A. 'Wrigley (secretary), W. Hamilton, J.
