WRIGHT'S LAMENT.

AFTERMATH OF THE GLADSTONE CASE. HIS PART AS LAUNDPuYMAN. BY CAKT.E-PBESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. Received. 10.55 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Feb. .11. “For an inadvertent sentence in an obscure book,” says Captain Peter Wright, “I was compelled to acquiesce in a, torrent of public abuse, persecution, deprivation of livelihood, expulsion from, my club, or to. wash a great deal of historical linen in public. If I played the part of laundry man, it was thrust on me. Being a. pessimist, Ido not expect justice on this.earth, and consequently I was not- disappointed. I consider I have not been treated with that .semblance, of justice by most of the tribunals, .social or legal, but their undisguised flagrant illegality does not vex me. Constrained by hard necessity to use every available weapon of defence, I could not help violating the ordinary rules of delicacy and deco.rum. The profits ion my book are under £4o.’’
