GOVERNMENT’S POLICY CRITICISED.

I3Y TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL TO THE STAII. WELLINGTON, Feb. 11. At the national conference of tlie Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants tlie following resolution was unanimously adopted: “That this conference protests against the Government’s immigration policy being continued in view of the unemployment in the country. We feel that the workers are entitled to the same measure of protection as that afforded, by the Government to another section of the community recently when a protest was made against their market being flooded by dumping.” During the discussion a point was made by the delegates that, far from being antagonist to immigrants-, they had & a good deal of sympathy with workers who came out to New Zealand, having been misled by reports suggesting they were sure of a job. The” necessity for publishing information in England regarding the conditions in New Zealand was urged, and it was mentioned that on the day Mr •T. C. Coates arrived in London the Labour Partv cabled to tlie Daily Herald: “Unemployment in New Zealand more severe than .for many years. 'Much distress in cities. _ Government failed to meet, the situation.. Its .immigration policy accentuating niinculty.” v ________
