Mr. F. El. Harrison, wife of Mr. Harrison, formerly engineer to the Patea Farmers’ Co-operative Freezing Company, died at Wanganui on Friday following an attack of pneumonia. Mr Keith Hooker, who sat for" his final in Bachelor of Engineering in Canterbury College this month, came to Hawera yesterday and will, after a few days here, continue his .journey to Auckland, where he will spend his holidays. The congregation of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Wellington, has definitely decided to send a call to the Rev. Julian Ralph Blanchard, M.A., of Perth, and the Presbytery has approved of the call being sent to the West Australian Presbytery (states a Wellington Press Association message). The good work done by Mr Fox as conductor of the Orchestral Society was cordially acknowledged by the members at the annual, meeting last night, and. their president, Mr Townsend, expressed this appreciation on their behalf when presenting Mr Fox with a substantial cheque as a practical acknowledgment of the work done and the enthusiasm shown by him. The presentation was made midst the hearty applause of all present.
A Wellington message reports the death of Richard Harris, 39 years of age. after an operation for acute .appendicitis. Deceased was a well-known journalist, and was formerly on the staff of the Hawke’s Bay Herald land the Christchurch Sun. He was editor of the Returned Soldiers’ paper Quick March. A fine verse writer, Mir. Harris was once heralded as another Victor Daley. Latterly he had been employed as a copy writer by Messrs Gordon and Gotoli, Ltd.—Press Assn.
