FREEZING TROUBLE.
HASTINGS HOLD UP. € • SIGNS OF WEAKENING. (by TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) HASTINGS. Nov. 1. A meeting, of freezing workers was held- yesterday to discuss going to work this morning, but no amending .resolution to the motion was carried at a previous meeting (not to apply for work) would/ be received, a-s a notice of motion is necessary. It is stated that efforts are being made to prevent the holding of another meeting, on the ground that the matter -has- gone out of the workers’ control, and is now i.n the hands of the Alliance of Labour As a, large, majority at yesterday ’« meeting were ready to- go to work, it is thought that they will not be disposed to take this lying down. Till roe works this morning were very quiet, practically no applications for work being received, although regular maintenance hands came on as usual. No picketing was observed. The trouble conies at ai very critical time for the farmers, who want to lighten their holdings of fats in face of the coming dry weather, and poor markets.
