Damage estimated at many thousands of pounds was caused to the stock and machinery. BRISBANE, Oct. 18. The Deputy-Director of Navigation has been advised that the steamer Ricolar, which was beached on September 9, has been refloated. LONDON, Oct. 17. The Earl of Strathmore, the'father of the Duchess of York, is the latest landowner to convert his vast estates into company. LONDON, Oct. 17. The Guards’ memorial became a second cenotaph to-day. Crowds visited it all day' long and the base of tlie memorial became banked deep 'in flowers. BERLIN. Oct. 17. In the Reichstag, the Socialists, in order to counteract the Compromise Bill passed by the Plrus&ian Diet granting the ex-Kaiser a residence in Prussia, are introducing a Bill absolutely prohibiting Wilhelm from ever entering or residing in Germany again. A similar prohibition 'against all the Hohenzollems is also included in the Bill with the proviso: “If the welfare of the Republic is thereby endangered.” LONDON. O'ct. 17. At an impressive evensong' service at Eltham, JCent„ some Au.strAlian flags presented from. Eltham (Victoria) were dedicated by the vicar and placed in the memorial chapel. The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. S. M. Bruce, read the .special lessons, and in a stirring address urged the importance of the Empire-wide unity which the lessons of the war had taught. He said the Empire must continue to be the wheet anchor of civilisation, and they must nob allow this u.nitv to lie sundered nor the great ideals of justice, freedom and the rights of the people to Ihe departed from.
