At Newhaven, the Democratic Party of the State of 'Connecticut, which has been meeting in convention, adopted a ‘ ‘ wet ’ ’ policy and went on to record its desire for the absolute repeal of the Eighteeth Amendment. Augustine Lonergan, who brought the subject before the convention, declared that, the amendment was an indefensible eurtailmet of personal liberty illegally incorporated in the Constitution.
LONDON, Sept. 16. A message from Canada suggests that in view of the difficulty of Mr Mackenzie King reaching London in time, the Imperial Conference should be further postponed. Inquiries in official circles, however, show that there is not the least likelihood of any postponement. Mr Mackenzie King is unable to leave so soon, but Canadian representation should not be seriously affected, as the High Commissioner, in addition to colleagues in Mr King’s own Ministrv, arc available. cially informed .to-dav that Mr Jacob f Rosenthal, a wealthy New York man, * was murdered last night by bandits, who had previously captured him, when the pursuit of the Federal soldiers grew close. The bandits were, two kidnappers who were demanding 10,000 dollars. Mr Rosenthal’s body was recovered.
