White-bait, usually the herald of spring, have made their appearance in Hawera —so has snow. Yesterday, the first consignment ox Waitara. caught white-bait were received in Hawera, and this afternoon, shortly after three o’clock, after a particularly wintry kind of day, snowflakes were seen to fall. . . But then Nature is full of paradoxes. - The death occurred.in Wellington on Tuesday of Nancy Annette Ewon, second daughter of Mr and Mrs J. F. Ewon, of Auckland. The sad occurrence is all the more to be deplored as Mr and Mrs Ewon are at the present time on. a visit to Europe and the deceased was visiting her grand-parents, Mr and Mrs Mclntosh, of .Wellington. A« far as can be ascertained the girl came into collision with a piece of furniture whilst playing and received injuries which resulted in her death. An important event' in the Soccer world of South Taranaki will he the presentation at -Auroa. to-morrow ('Friday) evening of the trophies won during the season ■ There will be a formal ceremony and .in addition' an. interesting programme of musical items, including Hawaiian items, and a dance will follow.
