Mr J. B. Murdoch returned by last evening’s mail train from Wellington. Mr W. A. Valentine, late* senior inspector of schools in Taranaki, accompanied by Mrs* Valentine, were passengers by last evening’s mail train. A Press Association -message from Sydney reports the death of Mr. Algernon Lindo, a pianist and music examiner, aged 64. Mr A. C. Pease was a passenger through Hawera. last evening by the mail train ; returning from a short business visit to Wellington.* Mr. M. Gray, now a student at Victoriiai .College .has been spending the vacation in Hawera.. He -returned to Wellington by this morning’s mail •train. A Press Association message from Melbourne states that the fetate Governor, Lord Somers, injured his knee by -a fall.. He ha® undergone one operation and a second will be necessary, though, it will not be serious. Mr. (and Mrs. F. J. Denton, of Wanganui, were guests at the Hotel last night, and left for Mt.> E'gmont this morning where they will 1 spend a -short holiday. ,J. • ? • !’.£ * Mr. H. E. Ciandy, formerly of this district, is spending a few-days in H!awera, and is busy looking tup old friends. He has . retired from business and is living .'at Tla.uranga., where '• lie enjoys, amongst other hobbies, the fishing for which that part is so well known. * -On.' Wellsted, coimnerqial agent for the Railway Department, who visited Hawera yesterday for the purpose of conferring with, the South Taranaki' Farmers’ Union in connection with the Opunake branch schedule, has proceeded-to New Plymouth. In proposing the motion, Cr J ; Hickey referred to the fact that Cr Cosgrove had suffered four bereavements during the past year,a and members expressed the hope that if Cr Cosgrove returned to the board- for the ensuing period he would* be more fortunate than* in the past.
