MUSICAL COMPETITIONS.
HAWERA FESTIVAL . COMMENCES NEXT WEEK. A perusal of the programme for the 1926 festival of the Hawera. Musical Competitions, conducted under the auspices of the local Male Choir and commencing a four day’s season Tuesday next, reveals, the fact that very careful attention has been paid to the arrangement of morning and afternoon sessions. Never have these 'sessions proved dull in previous years, but it would appear that special effort has this year been made to popularise the day programmes, and this should attract large attendances. The committee desires to draw attention to Die special .season ticket arrangements for tliis year’s festival. These tickets, which admit to the whole twelve sessions over the four days, can be purchased for 8s (adults) and 2s 6d (children). They are obtainable from local music shops and the .secretary Mr J. A. Dalgetty. The large number of “own .selection” classes ensures a much greater variety in the programmes, and due to the excellent arrangement for the evening sessions there will be practically mb repetition. The first day’s programme will include: Morning session, two test pieces, piano solo (under 12), girls recitation (under 15), and the own selection recitation (under 10); afternoon, two children’is choir classes (under 14 and 18 respectively), ladies Shakespearean recitation, piano duet (under 16), laud boy’s test recitation (under .15) ; evening, operatic solo, boys’, song (under 14), tenor isolo, Dieken’s character sketch, mixed quartette, and recalls .and winners of the day classes,
