BULK PETROL.

DISTRIBUTION IN HAWERA

POSSIBLE CUT IN PRICE. The bulk distribution of petrel in South Taranaki is aboutAo take a step forward —and a step forward which, as far as Hawera is concerned, will he on lines more progressive than those followed in many larger centres.

The enterprise; of the British Imperial Oil Co. (N-Z.) is in keeping with the. business acumen displayed by its parent organisation in London, which nag wide ramifications throughout the world, and by which the handling of motor spirit and other oils has been reduced to a fine business art.

The British Imperial Oil Co. (N.Z.) has its headquarters in Wellington. It has attacked the oil and petrel distribution in the country with vigour in the course of the past decade, and initiated the system of constructing tank wagons and bulk storage in the Dominion.

An agreement has been entered into with the New Zealand Railwaps Department bv which the. company has constructed oil its own account railtankers for the distribution of petrol from wliarfside to bulk stores in the main centres of redistribution. Hawera is to be made a bulk centre. The company has purchased a parcel of land at the railway station, where a siding has been put in. and where two bulk storage tanks are in course of erection. These tanks are 30ft, by 9ft., and are provided with the necessary apparatus for reception from wagon-tankers, and for redistribution to the motor auxiliary tank distributors which it is proposed to place in service in the town.

The company’s supply of petrol is at- present brought to Wellington from British North Borneo and the Straits Settlements in the British Imperial Oil ship tankers, pumped into huge storage tanks, some over a million gallons capacity, at Miramar. The company’s coastal tankers operate to depots at Wanganui and New Plymouth. Its rail-tankers will bring the petrol tb Hawera. The 8.1.0. motor-tanker will convey it to the kerbside pumps, and by this comprehensive scheme of distribution the company expects to, be able to reduce the price of the article to the consumer.
