HAWERA HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. At the ordinary meeting of the Hawera Hospital Board this morning there were present: Messrs A. L. Campbell (chair), A. T. Wrls, E. A. Washer, J. J. Me don, J. S. McKay, A. La,room, E. J. Giflfcmd and G. W. Tayler. REPORTS. MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT. The medical superintendent reported that the number of patients ini the institution at June 30 was 65, admitted 95, discharged 106, died 3, in hospital J uly 31, 51; daily average of beds occupied, 64.2; total out-patient days, 1991.; daily average for four mouths, 1926, 58 (last year 42); operations, 31; consultations, nil; anaesthetics, 34; X-ray cases, 40 (36 hospital caseis), four had three exposures, 18 two exposures, 14 one exposure. Massage: Patients ht 30th. June 9, admitted 1.2, discharged 10, receiving treatment 11; treatments during month 206, daily average 7.6, diathermy 17. MATRON’S.
Nurse Kine has passed the State examinations, while Nurses Addam and McChirtv passed in surgical and oral. Nu rse Kine is recommended, for appointment. Sister G. Carmichael left on July 31 to undergo midwifery training, and Miss Robertson has resigned for health reasons. Sister Brunton, Nurses Hoddineit, Brown, Nicholson, and Robertson have been away on sick leave; Sister Farqubar leturned to duty on July 16, Nurse Murdoch on July 10. and Nurse Washer went on leave on July 4. Fourteen lectures have been given during the month. CHARITABLE AID. During July the officer paid sixteen visits to persons and seventeen other visits. OLD PEOPLE’S HOME. The mathon reported that eleven men were in the home, and all are keeping well. During the month the Salvation Army gave a basket social and donations were received from St. Mary’s (cakes), Messrs Elliott and Sturrock (fruit). Messrs Travis and Crutch (hooks and papers). FARM. 'The manager reported that 372 galfens of mi'k were supplied to' the hospital and 46|- galllens to the: Old People’® Home, and 3251bs of bacon to tire hospital. BACTERIOLOGICAL, The bacteriologist at New Plymouth reported that during June 603 tests for swabs, blood pus, etc,, were: made, for which fee® to the amount of £2O were recoverable. Tenders for certain portions of the furnishings at the new Nurses’ Home were accepted. A tender was also accepted for twelve months’ supply of meat, and it was resolved to qalli tenders for bread supplies for the next year. In connection with the beautification of the araunds. it was expected that an expert recommended bv Messrs Duncan and Davies, would advise the board, on a comprehensive scheme. GENERAL. It was arranged for Messrs Duffxll and Gibson to complete laying and- installation of auxiliary water .supply for ontrino ro-om at tbs new hospital. T.li-e AVeTlingtori ECos«pit>al Board advised that it could not- entertain a pronosal to granteon cessions in regard to friendly .societies’ members belonging to this district, hut that the scheme would he submitted to the next hospital hoards’ conference. Air offer of £BO f.o.b. was made- to the- Health Department for the whirlpool hath at the Trentham Camp. It was decided to leave till next meeting consideration of proposed ambulance for Elthnm. The Elthnm Borough Council wrote thanking the hoard’ for offer of two stretchers, and advising that these would he kept in the fire station. Tim, Director-General of Health advised that the Minister of Health had approved the appointment of Dr. Porl'itt as resident medical officer at Hawera.
Accounts amounting to £I4OO 4s Tic! general expenditure and £544 building account were passed for payment.
