HONOURS IN MUSIC.
ASSOCIATED BOARD, LONDON. EXHIBITION TO HAWERA STUDENT. Some months ago advice was received from the resident secretary to the Associated Board, London, that Miss Leah Haughton, of Hawera, had been recommended for an exhibition in music as the result of the examiner’s report. This has now been confirmed by cable, and she has been granted the exhibition, tenable at the Royal College of Music, London, for two years, and probably for a longer period. Only four were granted for the Dominion. Miss Haughton, who is only 16years of age, has had two years’ tuition from Miss Reilly, and her only tuition previously was one year in New Plymouth when she was three years younger. It is a. remarkable performance to get that distinction after so little training, and the examiner was much impressed with her ability and prospects. Her parents are now giving the matter of her going to London serious consideration, and will decide shortly. The first term at the college begins in January, but students, may take up work at the beginning of any term. Her manv friends will congratulate her on the* success attending her study of music.
