CONDUCT OF A HOTEL.

POLICE ALLEGATIONS. . (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WANGANUI, June 2. The Wanganui Licensing Bench, was engaged to-day .in hearing objection's lodged by the police to the way the Commercial Hotel had been conducted. The proceedings were taken under Section 109 of the Licensing Act. Objection was that the house wa« conducted in an improper manner, that drunkenness was ]>ermitted therein, that during part of February, 1926, and from about Apri- 1 26 to May 2, one William Stevenson, lodged at the Commercial Hotel, handed over large sums of money to. the licensee in advance for liquor and lodgings to be supplied • that he received lodgings, was supplied with intoxicating liquor, and was frequently in a state of intoxication and drunkenness. Stevenson alleges that he handed over three sums of £SO to the licensee. These were cut out between the abovementioned dates. The hearing is proceeding.
