It is unofficially stated at the Trades Hall that the Government has decided to intervene in the coal strike and endeavour to arrange a. settlement. After a conference between the coal miners and' the striking engine-drivers and firemen, the Miners’ Union announced that the miners would not work with volunteers carrying oat the strikers’ duties MELBOURNE, May 24. As a result of the coal strike, fifteen inter-State colliers and cargo ships, and one passenger steamer, are tied up, rendering 640 seamen idle.
