WILKINS’ EXPEDITION. LARGE AREA UNEXPLORED. PLANS SLIGHTLY ALTERED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. NEW YORK, May 17. A despatch from 1 Detroit states that the Board of Control of the Detroit Expedition on Monday telegraphed to Captain Wilkins to carry on the flight. The message said: ‘‘The main results of the Bvrd and Amundsen Expeditions. as published, do not seem to necessitate any change in the, plans of the. Detroit Arctic Expedition, or lessen the importance of its general objective to disoever land and plant on it the American flag.” The message said that the board liad agreed that the scientific and discovery programme should be pressed forward and modified only bv ax'oiding on the flights north and south the strip ailready traversed by the Norge. It is estimated there are still eight hundred thousand square miles of unexplored Arctic territory in .which to seek land. Study of storm origin is also contemplated.
