WELLINGTON SHOPKEEPERS PROTEST. (By Telegraph. —Special to Star.) WELLINGTON, May IS. A deputation from the Wellington Chamber of Commerce waited upon the Mayor, Air Norwood, to protest against permits or licenses being issued allowing certain games from the Eixhibit-ion at Dunedin being operated in the city. It was stated that already several of these .places were carrying on business in the city and several other applications were pending. It was urged that the amount of money -spent on them was doing eonsideragle harm to business, and it gave an encouragement to gambling. The A Lay or stated that further applications had been received, but the matter would have to be carefully considered before amusement licenses were granted.
