TAWHITI

FIRST BALL OF THE SEASON. The committee of the Tawhiti Social Hall held its opening ball of the season last night, which was very successful. The hall was prettily decorated,, a committee of ladies being responsible for much artistic work in this respect. The ladies also took charge of the supper arrangements. Eully eighty couples; including visitors from Hawera and other parts, were present, and all spent a most enjoyable time. During the evening there were two waltzing competitions, and the standard of dancing was so good that the judges, Mrs Bloor and 'Mr R. Morrissey, had considerable difficulty in making their awards. They eventually gave the first prize in waltzing to Mrs Walker and Mr J. Telfar, and in the novelty dancing to Miss Oliver and Mr L. Garratt. The M.C.’s were Messrs A. and J. Humphries, and they looked after the visitors well. The music was played by Coburn’s orchestra, its work being much appreciated by all.
