(From Our Own Correspondent.)

BOWLING CLUB’S CARNIVAL.

The fund in support of the representative of Ireland in the Nationality Carnival inaugurated by the Kaponga Bowling Club will be greatly enhanced as the result of a house party held on Tuesday evening at the commodious residence of Mr. D. P. S. Malone, on Palmer Road. There was quite a large gathering of residents drawn from an extensive radius, who indulged until the small hours of the morning m varied competitions, the most important aim of which was the accumulation of cash. Winners of the principal of these were Mrs. W. Darragh, Miss F. Freeman, and Messrs R. Grace and J. Briscoe. Numerous entries were received for the euchre tournaments, in which a play-off between Mesdames J. Hammersley and P. Cameron was won by Mrs. Cameron, while Mr. A. D. Freeman occupied the premier position in the gentlemen’s section. Musical items and ping-pong filled in odd gaps in the extempore programme. Much of the harmony and success of the evening’s entertainment was due to the asssitance rendered to the host and hostess by Mesdames W. Darragh, M. Priest, Harper, and J. Deegan, Misses Powell, Dawson, and White, and Messrs J. Hammersley, H. Henderson, M. Gomerford. M. Priest, W. Darragh, A. D. Freeman, J. Briscoe, W. T. Jones, and G. R. Smith. GENERAL. Mr. P Thoumine, who sustained serious injuries through scalding one of his legs at the Kaponga Dairy Company’s factory some, eight weeks ago, is now able to dispense with his crutches, but is compelled to use a stick to aid locomotion. For a considerable period prior to the recent rainfall in this district the Kapuni' river was little better than a succession of isolated pools, in which numbers of trout languished. It has once again attained the status of a stream. In this connection it may also be mentioned that the electric, power dams have filled, much to the satisfaction of the engineer.
