CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL.
BRITAIN’S DRINK BILL. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, March 28. The fact that the consumption of alcohol in Britain is considerably less since the war is revealed by the latest figures. There has been a reduction of fourteen million gallons of - spir its, or seven million 'barrels, while there lias been an increase of five million gallons of wines. The expenditure last year was £7 4s per head, or slightly more than £315,000,000. it was estimated that 1,500,000 gallons of whisky were shipped from England to America, for which the Scottish distillers received £2,000,000.
