Mr H. H. Scott, clerk of the Magistrate’s Court at Stratford, has received notice of his transfer on promotion to the position of assistant clerk of the court at Auckland.

On Saturday evening, at the residence of Mr. ‘R. E. Baeyertz, Opunake, Air. H. A. Moore, Presbyterian missioner for the Opunake-Kaponga district, and Mrs. Moore, were farewelled and a presentation was made, consisting of a substantial to which friends from Opunake. Te Kiri, Oaonui and Pihama subscribed generously. Mr. Moore is leaving for North Auckland in a week or so, and Mr. Preston, from near Onehunga, Auckland, is to take his place. Air James Davidson, of Waitara, a member of the Taranaki bowling team at present playing in Auckland, died suddenly late on Friday night, after returning to his lodgings from a theatre. Heart trouble was the cause of death. The late Air. Davidson was born in New Plymouth, and a son of the late Captain and Airs. Davidson. Two brothers farmed at Waipuku. for some years, whilst another (William) was killed 1 at Gallipoli. “Jim” was a fine specimen of middleaged manhood, and to look at him one would never have thought he suffered from any complaint. He skipped a rink in ‘the recent Taranaki Centre tournament, and was in the same section as Butler (Park! Tributes to the work of the retiring president (Mr J. H. Baker) and the hon. secretary (Mr J. F. Tiddy). were expressed at trie annual meeting of the Egmont Sheep Dog Trial Club on Saturday. Air Baker, who had' occupied the position of president for seven years, was accorded a hearty vote of appreciation for his services and was made a life member of the club, while Air Tiddy, who expressed regret at being unable to carry on with the work of secretary, was also thanked for his efforts. Mr Baker, in reply, thanked tlie members for their kind remarks It had always been a pleasure for him to render any assistance to the club, and although he was retiring from the active work, he would still continue, to take a keen interest in its activities. He was pleased to see that his position would be filled by .Air H. R.. Scott, who, he was certain, would do his very best for the club.
